I think it’s fair to say that SEO tends to get a bad rap.
“It depends”
“It could take months to see results”
“It’s Google’s fault”
These are lines that clients hate to hear. After all, they’re paying you a monthly retainer to get them results. So where are they?
I wanted to do something a bit different in this post, I wanted to give you a sneak peek behind the curtain.
I’m going to share our Google Search Console data.
I know, a transparent SEO person? Do they exist? /s
Anyways, here’s our data.

Some context for you.
Ample Tech has been running for about 4 years with Anton alone. I came on board in early August to help grow the agency. Hence why we’ve got some historical data.
Anton is not an SEO person. Hence, very little effort was made on that front.
In that time, we’ve also had some pretty big Google updates including the August, November and December Core updates.
Here’s a 6 month comparison from when I started till now (about 6 months), and the 6 months before that.

In that time, I’ve tripled the number of clicks, and increased the number of Impressions by over 700%.
We’ve also got page 1 rankings for a handful of keywords such as “software agency“, “.net development agency” and “google tag manager services“.
And that took 6 months in the highly competitive digital marketing and software niche.
We’re still working on the marketing keywords such as “ppc agency” and “seo agency”. But you can imagine the level of competition here.
I guess the question you probably want to know is…
How did we do it?
Adding to the list of favourite SEO quotes, the answer is, “there is no silver bullet”.
When I came onboard, I overhauled the information architecture of the site. Built out the services pages, and made sure all the technical SEO aspects were covered, such as PageSpeed, title and meta descriptions, sitemaps, schema, image alt tags, heading tags, and most importantly, content.
That’s it, that was the answer. Information architecture.
If done right, it can work wonders without the need for link building.
But it still took 6 months.
And having worked in multiple agencies and dealing with clients at all levels of the food chain, they often don’t understand or want to wait 6 months to get results.
You’ve probably heard that “Paid Search is a sprint, but SEO is a marathon”.

I’ll give you another great quote from the great Warren Buffett, “You can’t get 9 women pregnant and make a baby in one month. Some things just take time”.
Only now, after 6 months of work, are we starting to get a steady flow of leads through the website.
Start now, and see where you land in 6 months.
